ALAIN GILLES

Bio

Design as a second life. After studying Political Sciences and Marketing Management, Alain Gilles went on to work in the international financial world for 5 years. But one has to live his own life. So, thanks to the moral support of his wife, he went back to studying Industrial design in France.

He opened his own studio in late 2007 in order to pursue his own dreams and develop his personal approach to product design, furniture design, art direction and scenography. He has since started to collaborate with several international editors such as Qui est Paul ?, Galerie Gosserez Paris, Magnitude, O’Sun, La Chance, Evolution, Buzzispace, Casamania and Bonaldo.

Several of his products have been awarded international prices, such as the Henry Van De Velde Label, the Design for Asia Golden Award, The “Red Dot Best of the Best” for the Welded table and the Good Design award for the Big Table.

In 2012, he was named “Designer of the Year”  by the prestigious Interieur Kortrijk Fair.

Design & plant harvesting

Moss, lichens and branches invite themselves into your interiors, providing a calm, soothing sensation but also greater acoustic comfort. This is what Greenmood proposes with its green walls, panels and objects. “The fascinating thing is”, designer Alain Gilles who has already created various objects for the brand, highlights, “that the plants are carefully collected in the forest. Like in hunter-gatherer times, except here there is just the gathering part going on…” . These plants are stabilised straight away with a natural glycerine (preserving their freshness) and fixed on a support by hand. Here, Alain Gilles offers hanging mobiles creating a dialogue between the simple delicacy of metal framework and the proliferation of plants. “It’s letting the uncontrollable side of nature into the clean-cut side of design”, he concludes.

side tables
Metal (option to add a marble table top)
High version: 42 x 46 cm ( D x H )
Low version: 42 x 38.5 cm ( D x H )

The Combination side tables are all about combining basic geometrical shapes in order to create a fresh take on the small side table typology. A circle, a rectangle and a half-sphere are combined to create a table with a personality that changes according to the viewing angle. The rectangular element supporting the table will
appear extremely thin or extremely wide depending on the position from which it is viewed. This in effect creates a table with a changing personality. The tables' various components are made of metal and are available in a range of
colours. They can also be fitted with an extra marble plate for added visual impact. They are offered in two different heights that can complement and interact with each other.
