Atelier Contour

Atelier Contour designs and creates interiors, furniture and objects. In the design process, the studio always looks for new starting points, approaches or perspectives in order to achieve a diversity of design solutions. Craftsmanship and the honest use of materials always come first.

Bio

With a pared-down design Atelier Contour extends the life of the furniture and minimizes the impact on the environment by working with residual materials. The studio's further research will consist of looking for new waste streams that could be the starting point for the further development of this furniture collection.

Objects

Perledo

For this project, Natalia Brilli collaborated with Antwerp designers Filip Pacquee and Jorne Wellens from Atelier Contour, a studio renowned for its sustainable approach and minimalist design. Perledo is a folding screen made from raffia tapestry hand-hooked in a family workshop in Madagascar. Inspired by the eponymous village perched high above Lake Como, Perledo combines the graphic effect of an embroidered checkerboard with 3D vegetation, evoking both the romantic gardens of Lombardy and the symbolist painters of the North.

This collaboration merges Natalia Brilli's dreamlike, surreal world with Atelier Contour's refined aesthetic and responsible philosophy. Together, they imagine a world where the poetry of lost paradises intertwines with elegant simplicity and ecological commitment, offering an exceptional piece that is both timeless and sustainable.

Kuro Monorisu / Black Monolith

The furniture collection Kuro Monorisu / Black Monolith is the result of an investigation into adding textures and surface treatments to wood species considered inferior. The furniture is made of a residual stream of wooden beams, once used in drying ovens. By "carving" and "burning" the surface of the furniture, the cubes, typical of the gluing process, are visually pushed into the background. An asymmetrical composition and a play between rough and smooth surfaces were chosen.
