Bio

Sarah El Yousefy and Nina Ouchinsky, architects who graduated in 2015 from the Faculty of Architecture at Saint-Luc Brussels, have over the years developed a passion for living and organic materials, its application in construction, its hidden stories and everything it produces. As part of their respective practices, they have sought to reduce the environmental impact of the construction sector. They have trained in a range of ecological construction techniques, including raw earth, lime and hemp, straw and natural coatings. It's through this approach that they have discovered ancestral know-how and crafts that are on the verge of extinction. But also the impact of excavated earth, particularly in their capital, where much of it ends up in landfill sites. Attracted by the textures, nuances and infinite possibilities of these materials, they wanted to bring them to life through design. In 2023, they decided to combine their talents, their friendship and their passion through the creation of Cru Atelier.

Glow

GLOW is a collection of architectural lamps designed to bring ambient lighting to any space. Sculpted, it opens to reveal an illuminated core, projecting a beam of light from within. Made of raw earth (using the rammed earth technique) or lime-hemp concrete, it is handcrafted without firing. The raw earth comes from the excavations in Brussels, while the hemp is sourced from organic farming. Its cylindrical shape is enhanced with a LED strip, allowing the light to caress the textured layers of the material, highlighting the natural strata and creating a unique play of shadows and light on the surface
