Daniel Henry

Daniel Henry Studio is a research and development laboratory and a textile producing workshop. It is well known for its innovation, mastery of a cross-section of techniques and its work in transforming materials.

Bio

"Screen printing is my favourite medium for expression. It is, for me, an experimentation of texture. Ornamentation has never been central to my work. When I use a pattern, it has to be active. Whether it is geometric or organic, it is a force of metamorphosis: it structures the fabric, and modifies its gravity, its drape."

For Daniel Henry, what accounts for the success of a piece, is the choice of an adequate base. He makes his selection with no reservations, whether its velvet, latex, natural linen, silk chiffon, straw or even radiator insulation foil. The combinations of techniques are the crux of the art. Screen prints can be followed or preceded by three types of finishing (physical, thermal or chemical), to modify their visual and/or tactile aspect.

Since it was launched in 2000, Daniel Henry Studio has worked internationally, with a wide range of applications (textile industry, prêt-à-porter, haute-couture, decoration, wall coverings, costumes, graphic arts). The studio has acquired a high level of expertise in the design and production of unique and original projects.

Velum Magneticus

In 2024, the marriage hall at the Hôtel de Ville has been adorned with a new textile work by Daniel Henry. After more than 120 years, for conservation reasons, the original embroidery could no longer be displayed. While fitting in with the historic decor,  contemporary work Velum Magneticus evokes love as a succession of magnetic moments. This work plays on a series of dualities: embroidery and silk-screening, light and shadow, giving and receiving, calm and agitation.

Triple Bénitier / antependium

"Often, I work the surface all-over, covering it entirely and regularly, so that no part is more highlighted than any other. A back and forth between near and far reveals a double reading: from afar, a monochromatic feeling; up close, a world of detail. Each material has intrinsic qualities, some of which are unexpected. I seek them out and reveal them." Daniel Henry
