De Winter Design

Jan De Winter founded De Winter Design with a simple aim: to rediscover and commercialise the little-known furniture designs of his grandfather, the architect Roger De Winter. These were created alongside and during Roger’s architectural practice but were never commercially produced during his lifetime. They remained largely hidden and thus constitute a completely
undiscovered treasure in the history of Belgian furniture design.

Bio

From the very same location where Roger once ran his architectural practice, and with access to the complete archive of drawings, sketches and prototypes, his grandson is bringing this lost design legacy back to life. The approach combines exacting precision with deep respect for the original vision. Each piece is thoroughly researched, multiple prototypes are tested, and where possible, owners of original pieces are consulted.
The aim is not merely to reproduce historical furniture, but to carefully rework it to meet contemporary quality standards, with a view to reaching a wider audience. Each piece of furniture is entirely produced in Belgium with high-quality craftsmanship.
De Winter Design goes beyond mere production. It is a tribute to a forgotten designer and helps to inform the public about Belgian design history.

RDW01

The RDW01 chaise longue, originally designed in 1962, was offered exclusively to the designer’s own clients at the time. Only around ten examples were produced. The elegant design is based on a circular form and reflects his design philosophy: simple, refined and effective. Polished aluminium crossbars rest on the curved chrome-plated steel frame, contrasting with the handmade leather cushion. The welded joints demonstrate attention to detail. The angle can be perfectly adjusted.
Following careful examination of the original prototype and archive plans, the design was further developed, whilst fully retaining the spirit of the time. Each piece is produced in Belgium in small, limited editions.
