Bio

Graduated in 2019 at the postgraduate furniture design in Mechelen, Elias Van Orshaegen covers a variety of projects that range from custom pieces, made to measure to more limited editions. Rooted in a hands-on investigation he explores materials, techniques, waste streams and their use. Challenging our perceptions, his approach entails a thinking doing philosophy where intuition plays a central role.

Bench, 2021
Stainless steel, aluminium
L150cm x D40cm x H45cm

Post Pandemic Love Seat is a curved aluminium plate of one meter fifty, symbolic for social distancing. It ensures that users will sit closer together. The base is made of polished stainless steel and acts as an extension of any environment. No glue or welding, only mechanically connected elements. This preserves the value and usefulness of the materials
beyond the life of the bench

Table lamp, 2021
Second life glass bricks, second
life steel tubes (overordered
from oil and gas industry)
H 26cm x D10cm

Astor lighting, a collaboration with Robbe Stevens, is a table lamp made of steel tubes surplus and glass bricks which were initially used in cement facades. These glass cylinders were inserted in concrete walls enabling light to shine through. Wanting to preserve their connection to light, the designer used them horizontally and let the light shine out from within.
