Through her textile work, Louise Richard aims to combine a sober approach with the poetics of the object.

Bio

After working for a decade on urban planning projects, Louise Richard turned to textile design in 2017. Inspired by Charlotte Perriand, she approaches creation through materials and their manipulation. Her aim is to combine a sober approach with the poetics of the object. MultiFelt was born during her Master’s degree at Brussels Royal Academy of Fine Arts. This hybrid, multi-layered felt responds to a specific challenge: creating a textile from recycled materials without relying on the textile industry. Sourcing damaged jumpers, colours and finishes, Richard finds a way to prolonge their history. Locally sourced and undyed wool is used to piece it all together. Despite its many virtues, wool is a forgotten treasure: the processing industries have gradually disappeared, and farmers are struggling to make the most out of it.

MultiFelt

MultiFelt is the outcome of her research and a way for the designer to raise questions around the origins and future of the textiles that surround us. She uses it in the form of objects for interiors, such as rugs, cushions, chair covers and wall art. Louise Richard also creates jacquard-woven pieces, plaids and tapestries. In the spirit of the MultiFelt project, her goal is to develop a weaving line combining recycled wool yarn with locally sourced wool yarns.
