Bio

Roel Vandebeek is an all-round designer who is active in various fields. His designs always start from the identity of the context. They are original, surprising products, objects and installations with a touch of humor. Is it art, is it design, it doesn’t matter, it’s a Roel. He also works with architects on interior projects and public spaces.

An object that takes up space and becomes space, that is the intention of the installation presented in the film. This is accompanied by a certain calm and thoughtfulness that is also transferred to the watcher, placed like a true director who steers, asks questions and takes the lead. This chair subtly dominates the room from the skirting boards.

PIQUE FLEURS

VASE WITH FLOWER STRUCTURE
2018
Glass, wood and willow
HxBxD 30 x 13 x 13cm

From traditional exotic to contemporary local

With his “Pique fleurs”, Roel Vandebeek invites you to create floral arrangements according your daily inspiration… The designer had his inspiration when he discovered the artisanal weaving of Shipibo-Conibo, a peruvian native community. His “Pique fleur” is a contemporary and local translation. Its making has been given to a basket maker from Limburg who works with Belgian green wicker. “The idea si to give a contemporary shape to a traditional object but also to see that sustainable and local materials exist worldwide to create it” the designer says. In short just the know—how has to travel! Other versions have been created in Peru and they could be imagined somewhere else in the world. As for the “Pique-fleur” vase, the designer invites to buy it second hand to be as circular as possible.
