Sébastien Caporusso is the new Designer of the Year!

Biennale Interieur, together with the magazines Knack Weekend and Le Vif Weekend, have chosen the new Designer of the Year. This year Sébastien Caporusso caught the eye of the jury.

Created in 2006 to support Belgian talent, the Designer of the Year award is a joint initiative of the magazines Knack Weekend and Le Vif Weekend with the Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk. Brussels-based designer Alain Berteau was the first 'Designer of the Year'. In the meantime, the title has also been awarded to designers such as Muller Van Severen, Alain Gilles, Sylvain Willenz and Vincent Van Duysen. Sébastien Caporusso succeeds previous winner Sep Verboom.

"Unusual times call for surprising choices," says jury member and curator Dieter Van Den Storm on the subject. "Sébastien Caporusso is a designer who fits the list of designers of the year perfectly. He is a designer with a pronounced aesthetic way of working, combined with a preference for sustainable materials and all of this produced by hand. He has knowledge of the individual object, but at the same time he is equally strong in designing total projects. For each project, he knows how to gather the best Belgian craftsmen. In this way, his oeuvre captures the zeitgeist very well: local production, international appeal. Caporusso is a designer we will be hearing a lot from in the years to come.”

Sleek design and and noble materials are characteristic to Sebastien Caporusso's work. Sourcing the materials he uses from the finest Belgian craftsmen, his work is all about marrying the opposition. Organic forms and unusual cuts, unique objects and their effortlessness, all flow together in his creations.
